2025 Spring Service Wrap-Up

Throughout March and April, we welcomed 76 participants to Mountain T.O.P. to serve on multiple home repair projects. From middle schoolers to college students to older adults, all our participants helped us move the needle on substandard housing in our community.

Over the course of 5 weeks, our volunteers worked a total of 1,644 hours. The Independent Sector values volunteer labor in Tennessee at $29.93 per hour. Therefore, the value of our volunteer labor this spring was $49,204.92.

Serving through major home repair was very rewarding and l love the people l was working with. I learned about Christian Love and giving of one’s self. And l learned a lot about tools.

Mountain T.O.P. worked with 6 families this spring.

Our volunteers renovated three bathrooms, installed flooring at three homes, built one accessibility ramps, and installed one new roof.

All of these repairs are vital to a homeowner’s well-being. New floors and renovated bathrooms reduce the likelihood of slips, trips, and falls. A newly repaired bathroom can help a homeowner maintain their dignity and autonomy as they age in place. Many older adults will struggle with their mobility as they age; therefore, a safe and accessible bathroom can create a safe place for them as they encounter new challenges.

Home repairs can be one of the most affordable housing solutions. Investing in repairing a home can save a lot of money by preventing trips to the hospital or emergency room, improving a homeowner’s mental health, preventing fires or fire-related injuries, or preventing exposure to toxins.

I learned to be more mindful of people’s needs. How to see the beauty and goodness in doing God’s work. I get so much satisfaction out of volunteering here. I’m glad I made the commitment to come as often as I can!

A safe entry/exit into a home can make a world of difference! New ramps and stairs promote increased mobility and independence and reduce the risk of falls and future injuries. Also, ramps and stairs serve as gateways to more social connection! Moving freely and safely in and out of a home is important for the homeowner's well-being.

This is my first experience with you. I loved getting to know the staff and the homeowners. I made new friendships and found a peace on the mountain.
